Welcome Researchers

The Framingham Heart Study welcomes the interest and proposals of outside investigators. Collaboration is encouraged as it helps to maximize the scientific value of the wealth of epidemiologic data made possible by the participation of more than 15,000 individuals who enrolled in the Framingham Heart Study over the past decades. The core research of the Heart Study has focused on many aspects of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease. Access to the data for a wide range of investigations has enabled research discoveries related to other diseases such as stroke, osteoporosis, arthritis, obesity, eye and hearing disorders, and cancer.

In order to facilitate access and ensure the optimal scientific outcome, the Framingham Heart Study requires Ancillary Studies’ Principal Investigators to

  • For projects that require sponsorship, PIs must receive “Approval” or “Approval in Concept” from the FHS Executive Committee before investigators may submit to a sponsor for funding. Those PIs holding applications with “Approval in Concept” must report to the FHS EC that they have fulfilled their “Approval in Concept” stipulations prior to beginning their research.
  • For projects that do not require sponsorship, PIs must receive approval from the FHS Research Committee.
